Over two days on 16–17 June, Te Whare Awhi hosted a Learner Licence Programme for local rangatahi taking their first step towards gaining a driver licence.
The programme provided participants with support to learn the New Zealand Road Code, prepare for their learner licence theory test and build confidence in a positive and encouraging environment.
The course was open to first-time applicants and aimed to remove barriers that can prevent young people from obtaining a licence. Having a driver licence can open doors to employment, education, training and greater independence.
We would like to congratulate all participants for their commitment and effort throughout the programme and thank everyone involved in making the course a success.
Following strong interest in the programme, we are pleased to announce that the next Learner Licence Course will be held on 27–28 July 2026. The course is open to first-time learner licence applicants from Huntly, with limited spaces available. Rangatahi interested in attending are encouraged to register early to secure their place.
