In June, Te Whare Awhi held its very first Kaumātua Lunch, welcoming local community members aged 60+ for a hot meal, great company and plenty of laughter.
The room was filled with conversation as people caught up with old friends, met new ones and enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal together. It was wonderful to see everyone leave with a smile and already looking forward to the next lunch.
The Kaumātua Lunch was created to provide a welcoming space for those aged 60+ to get out of the house, stay connected and enjoy spending time with others in the community.
Sharing a meal is a simple way to bring people together, and the positive response to our first lunch showed just how valuable these gatherings can be.
A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who generously give their time to prepare, cook and serve each meal. Their kindness and dedication are what make this programme possible.
Following the success of our first event, the Kaumātua Lunch will now be held every month.
Our next Kaumātua Lunch is on Friday, 21 August, at Te Whare Awhi, 14 Fraser Street, Huntly.
If you’re aged 60+, we’d love to welcome you along for a delicious meal, friendly conversation and the chance to meet new people.
