The Huntly Museum is celebrating its first birthday at the historic Huntly Railway Station following its remarkable rebuild. One year after opening its doors in the restored building, the museum is inviting the public to mark the milestone with a community celebration this weekend.
The first birthday festivities kick off this Saturday, October 10 at 11:00 am at the station.
The event marks a major milestone for the cultural hub, which successfully opened last October after the historic 1939 railway building underwent an extensive restoration. Community backing, local grants, and dedicated volunteer hours helped bring the project to life, turning the station into a permanent home for Huntly’s heritage.
Headlining the birthday celebrations is the official opening of a new local art exhibition titled “A Sense of Place.” The exhibition showcases regional artists capturing the distinct identity, history, and landscapes of Huntly and the wider Waikato area.
Visitors can also look forward to the cutting of a giant birthday cake at 11:00 am to thank the public and volunteers for their ongoing support. Alongside the cake, a fundraiser sausage sizzle will run throughout the day to raise money for future community programs and museum displays.
Come on down to the Huntly Railway Station this Saturday to enjoy the art, grab a sausage, and celebrate a successful first year of local history at the station.
