32 members of the Huntly Garden Circle met at the Huntly RSA on Thursday 2nd April, with 33 entries into the competition. Produce was abundant.

Monthly Meeting
Reminder: AGM in June, so we are asking for nominations for President, Secretary and Treasurer, as these are all standing down. We would also like new members for our committee.
Feedback was given on a questionnaire regarding barriers to attending extra garden visits outside meeting day. Time and other commitments were the main factors, with requests to have some on Saturdays for those who work. Details of these visits will go on our Facebook page and all members are welcome.
Wasps do not seem to be a major problem this year. Weeds are a major problem for many.
Eilleen has devised a solution to spray individual oxalis weeds without harming surrounding plants by placing the cut top of a large soft drink bottle over the offending plant to shield surrounding plants, then spraying the weed. Gloria uses a 10cc syringe and spot-sprays her offending plants with good effect.
Garden Visits
The weather was perfect for enjoying the gardens. Jenny’s large, established garden in Taupiri was the envy of many, with her extensive hard landscaping, including a stream and a beautiful variety of planting — such a real joy to visit. Sue’s garden near the Hunua area was also extensive; she had inherited her father’s garden, with a great variety of majestic mature trees and plantings.
We are so grateful for the generosity of Jenny and Susan in allowing us to share in their gardens and appreciate the work that goes on to prepare for our visits.
Next month we will be visiting three members’ gardens: Val, Trish and Barbara.
