Genesis has received fast-track approval for its proposed 220MWp Foxton solar farm, marking a significant step forward for one of the company’s largest renewable generation projects.
Located around 10km north of Foxton in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, the 436-hectare solar farm will comprise around 150,000 solar panels and is expected to generate 345GWh of renewable electricity each year, enough to power approximately 43,000 households.
Genesis Chief Operating Officer Tracey Hickman said Foxton is an ideal location for a solar farm with its abundant sunshine.
“We’re really pleased to receive approval for Foxton. It moves another significant renewable project forward as we invest in the generation New Zealand will need for a more secure and increasingly renewable electricity system.”
Foxton is one of several solar projects. Genesis is progressing as part of its long-term growth strategy to expand renewable generation, support demand growth from its nearly 500,000 customers, and strengthen security of electricity supply. Together with Tihori, Rangiriri, Leeston and the operating Lauriston solar farm, Foxton will help grow Genesis’ renewable generation portfolio and support New Zealand’s transition to a more renewable energy future
