Asher had a win in the first round and came second in the second round to Chad McGovern. He managed another win in both the southern third and fourth rounds after some intense battles that came down to the wire, ultimately taking the overall title.
The Chatter caught up with Asher to learn about what contributes to his success.
How long have you been involved in the sport and how did you become interested?
“I’ve been riding motorbikes on the farm since I was four years old. I’ve always been interested in riding and have watched Dad, my uncles, and cousins ride together and race in the local Belray series.”
What training is involved on a weekly basis?
“I train by riding regularly on the farm and refining my technical skills on different terrains. I also did some practice rides and races leading up to the Nationals.”
What do you enjoy about it and what events do you like the most?
“I enjoy going fast over a variety of terrains, such as open spaces, hills, bush sections, and through swamp/creek crossings. The local Belray series and the Western Warrior Race have been my favourite events to compete in.”
What are the challenges for you?
“Staying on my bike is always a challenge, picking good race lines, and staying ahead of my competitors on bigger and better bikes. A challenge in the past was racing on my farm bike against my competitors, who were on race bikes with faster engines and better suspension. Since I got a race bike a year ago, I’ve made great progress in my racing.”
Who supports you, and who would you like to thank?
“My family and friends support me. Dad does the maintenance on my bike and gets me to races. Recently, Patrick Glidden and the Peter Glidden Honda shop have supported me with bike maintenance and parts. Thanks, Team!”
What’s your future goal?
“I’ve just achieved my goal, but in the future, I aim to achieve a podium finish in the 125cc or 250cc class.”
