Read more: The George Vickers trophyAt stake, a trophy with significant ties to both Te Kauwhata and Huntly. George Vickers MNZM was a Te Kauwhata resident and belonged to the Huntly Lions Club for many years. He served in many roles in Lions, being District Governor 202C 1968/69 and Chairman of the Council of Governors, Multiple District 202 1969/70. The competition trophy is made from a silver jug presented to George with appreciation from all the Lions of New Zealand, with an added base and plaque.
Each club had 2 teams competing for the trophy, and the remaining members present (another 3 teams) competed for a large box of chocolates. Huntly’s President’s team took out the trophy with 38 points, the box of chocolates being won by one of the additional teams, with 35 points.
Looking forward to the rematch next year!
