The 2026 season will be remembered for years to come by the Taupiri/Te Kauwhata Women’s Rugby Team.
Both clubs began the year unsure whether they would be able to field a women’s side. By joining forces, they turned that uncertainty into an unbeaten season and a championship title.
The combined team quickly became a close-knit group, going undefeated before claiming the 2026 Women’s Championship with a 28–10 win over United Matamata Sports.
The season carried added meaning as the players honoured the memories of CJ and MJ, taking their spirit with them throughout the campaign.
Their success was further recognised when they were named the Power Farming Club Team of the Year, a fitting acknowledgement of the determination and commitment behind their season.
A special shout-out goes to Taupiri Rugby Club, its committee, Guts, Craig, Mere, Tish, Joey and Hera, along with the supporters and players who welcomed Te Kauwhata Rugby Club with open arms and helped make the combined team such a success.
