The latest project for Huntly Museum captures the lives of Huntly identities in their own words, highlighting the struggles, triumphs and humour of daily life in an era that is passing into history.
Interviews with past editor of Huntly Press and The New Tatler, Pam Ferla, are being printed as leaflets, with proceeds going towards the museum.
Those interviewed included the last mayor of Huntly, as well as miners, shop keepers, doctors and musicians.
“There have been some delightful characters over the years and I’ve loved listening to their stories,” says Pam. “They gave me an insight into their daily lives and remind me of the camaraderie of the miners and the warm-hearted nature of people in this town. I hope locals and anyone linked to Huntly will also enjoy their stories.”
While the majority of interviews have been done with a book in mind, several were previously published in Huntly Press and The New Tatler.
Those interviewed include: Bill Lynch, Ray Penny, Robin Wright, Fred Rix, Maude Ralph, Harry Meyer, Guy King, Snow Finn, John Stewart, Dr Bruce Ryburn, Ray Urquhart, Andrew Peattie, Bert Roberts and Rhys Jones. Also included are Eddie Farrell, Roy Gill, Cecil Smith, Dr Eric Tilson, Alice Chisholm, Edie Taylor, Wetere Paki, Brownie Paki, George Dow, Bob Offord and Ian Olsen.
